What Happens To Financially Ever After?

What Happens To Financially Ever After?

Like most little girls, I grew up dreaming about Prince Charming. Except I adapted the Disney script a tad bit and instead of seeking a prince who was tall, dark, and handsome, I aimed more for tall, light-skinned, and fine. And I got that too in my first husband. We were so into the “happily every after” fantasy that he actually rented a white horse and rode it down our suburban street, and proposed to me on bended knee, right there in the driveway with the horse and all of my family and neighbors as witnesses. But alas, just like in the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tales, stories that read well on paper, don’t always work out IRL!

And oh, did I mention I had added a beautiful, fat, sumo-wrestler-looking baby boy to the mix? You never see THAT in them der fairy tales, now do ya?

It was during this time that I read my first financial book cover to cover. Maybe it was the title that held me so captivated, Prince Charming Isn’t Coming: How Women Get Smart About Money, ya think? LOL. Written by Barbara Stanny, it gives you a deep dive into things you need to do as a woman to take care of yourself financially. It explains some of the psychological damage we’ve inherited over the years about our expectations of men providing for us. And offers steps we can take to ensure we stay financially secure. On. Our. Own.
